Irving Penn
Irving Penn photographed old and used things found on the street, such as these old cigarettes and packet. They are photographed from above onto a white background. There is no scale to compare the cigarettes/packet to as there is nothing else in the pictures and they have been taken up close to the object so they look bigger than they really are. The background could also be plain because it contrasts with the objects and makes them stand out. The pictures could show us that things we throw away can still be visually interesting.
